Signaling further momentum in the financial services market, HP has been
selected by Reuters to move its Market Data Systems to HP ProLiant servers
running Linux. HP estimates sales of hardware and services through this
alliance over the next 3 to 5 years could exceed $200 million. Reuters
chose HP over Sun as their platform of choice and chose HP over IBM to
provide the hardware and services for this project.
Today's announcement is a significant milestone for Linux and for HP. It
demonstrates the growing presence of Linux in the financial services
market, which in many cases displaces proprietary platforms. This also
places HP in a strategic position as the financial services market moves
from Sun Solaris to Linux, an emerging and fast growing trend in this
market.
